Today in class students wrote about their food web diagrams in their science lab notebooks. They wrote about the role of decomposers, and speculated what would happen to the populations of other organisms if one of the consumers were to suddenly disappear.

Today students began working on creating a model of a food web. They identified a list of organisms as producers, primary consumers, secondary consumers, or decomposers, and then worked to create an efficient lay-out of the images of the organisms to make a coherent food-web diagram. We will continue this in class tomorrow.

Today students are working on their ecology games. The games are due Friday (except for section 3, whose games will be due on Monday). The students were assigned new homework, called the Ecology Games Questions, which will be due on Monday (Tuesday for section 3).

Today students worked on collecting information to make a game to explain an ecology concept to middle school students. The games will be played in class on Friday, January 20, and students will collect information about each other’s games to create a composite view of ecology as a whole.

Today students handed in their science lab notebooks, and began reading in the Ecology textbook about interactions between living things and their environment. They began answering some questions about the reading they were doing, which they will finish during class tomorrow.

Students had the opportunity to earn some extra credit for tomorrow’s quiz by crafting quiz questions. They were trying to derive unique questions based on the information in the study guide, and perhaps have their question included on the quiz. Once we had spent some time on this, students were arranged into groups to play the review game to help prepare for the quiz.

Welcome Back! Students today were working on their starch labs. They were either finishing testing food items for starch or beginning to work on the starch lab report questions, call Starch Lab Questions.

Today students continued to use computers to work on their lab reports. Completed lab reports will be due on Friday.
